Optoma Unveils UHZ50 Entry-Level 4K Laser Projector

The Optoma UHZ50 seeks to dismantle the preconceived notion that 4K laser projectors must be expensive, and as the company’s most affordable traditional format projector to date, it certainly deserves some attention.

The UHZ50 slots are just below the brighter UHZ65LV – a 4K HDR machine we rated four stars in our Optoma UHZ65LV review – but, while the latter costs £ 3,299 ($ 5,999), the former recently launched. is much more achievable at £ 2,499 ($ 2,799).

The Optoma UHZ50 is a single chip DLP projector powered by one of Optoma’s DuraCore lasers. It benefits from a luminous flux of 3000 lumens with a lifespan of up to 30,000 hours.

The UHZ50 outputs its image to the 4K screen with a 1080p projector panel and the company’s True 4K pixel shift technology which quickly alternates the position of the chip to fill the image with a full resolution of 3840 x 2160 .

Light is focused via a manual 1.3x zoom lens that features a vertical shift of + 10% and a throw ratio of 1.21: 1 to 1.59: 1. There is also keystone correction and keystone control to help ensure that the image fits your screen and the installation position.

Optoma has equipped the UHZ50 with three HDMI 2.0 sockets (one with eARC) and USB sockets for playing local media as well. Your other audio output options are through a 3.5mm jack or S / PDIF, but there are also 2 built-in 10W speakers to lean on.

Despite the lack of HDMI 2.1 technology, Optoma has positioned it as a good projector for gaming with its screen size of up to 300 inches, and claims ultra-low input lag. It’s rated at 4.2ms for 1080p games up to 240Hz, with a response time of 16.7ms at 4K 60Hz. It supports both HDR10 and HLG, and also features a motion processing system.

Even without an HDMI connectable content source, the UHZ50 has you covered. It includes an integrated smart platform with a selection of streaming apps and services. You can also stream content from your mobile, although we imagine that combining this projector with a dedicated media streamer will provide a more complete and easier to use experience.

It is available for purchase in the coming weeks.
