Twelve Foot Ninja part ways with singer Nik Barker

Australian prog metal quartet Twelve Foot Ninja have announced their split from singer Nik ‘Kin Etik’ Barker.

Twelve Foot Ninja only released their latest album Vengeance in October and also announced that Barker would stay with the group for all upcoming Australian shows, as well as a farewell tour that has yet to be announced, before as Twelve Foot Ninja singer.

“After 14 years, hundreds of beers, a few albums and a few tours, along with my favorite assholes, I made the difficult decision to end my tenure as Twelve Foot Ninja singer,” said Barker. The creative tension between Steve [‘Stevic’ Mackay] and I’ve contributed some great music that I’m really proud of. But also, it took its toll and I feel creatively tired in this particular dynamic.

“He’s reached a point of taking more than I think I can give him, and it would end up coming at the expense of the music.”

“I’m proud that we’ve been able to make our differences work for so long and that we’re still good friends with them. I have so much love and admiration for Steve and his work ethic. He inspired me to grow in so many ways, and I thank him for his patience and persistence.

“However, as difficult as it is to leave, I feel ready to step away from this role. I will continue with TFN until 2022, and together we will find a killer singer to take my place, and join the band on this. next phase of its evolution. “

“Nik and I are very different philosophically,” adds Mackay. “I have cultivated a culture that prioritizes the best goal-oriented results over personal emotion. Nik, like many creative people, is primarily driven by emotion (i.e. which “feels good”) I’m not like that, and although the resulting collision of these two values has positively influenced our music; it causes a lot of friction in the process, and after 14 years the cost / benefit for Nik does not accumulate, which I completely understand.

“In summary: I’m like a robot programmed to attack tasks until the desired result is achieved, and Nik is a spiritual earthling who wants to be happy… And in this industry, with the feedback we get. .. I can’t blame him for wanting something more. He’s a dad, he’s a talented guy and life is too short to be miserable. I speak for everyone in the band when I say that we love him, we want the best for him and his family, we support his choice and we look forward to these latest concerts coming together.

“I just have two requests for anyone reading this: Please don’t disturb Nik.” The relentless harassment of complete strangers will not change her decision. If anything; celebrate the closing of this chapter of Twelve Foot Ninja with him (& us). Please don’t disturb the group members. We just want to enjoy our time with Nik still in the band and can’t wait to find a new killer singer.

“Finally, while we are sad that Nik is moving on, we are also grateful for the rare opportunity to have a year’s notice to find a new singer. We are energized by the prospect of finding someone totally new whose voice will wow us and inspire us to write new music that will wow yours. We want everyone to be blown away.

The group said they remain committed to their European tour scheduled for 2023.
